Legalese
Okay, it seems every site has one, so this is our page of legal bumpf. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail the webmaster. I've tried to make it both sensible and clear, but please let me know if you disagree. It is changed from time to time, so check back once in a while.

Privacy policy
If you are just looking at this site, we don't know who or where you are, we don't need to know, and don't want to know. We don't use cookies or any other profiling or tracing mechanisms. Full stop.
The hosting server (currently Demon Internet) is inescapably passed certain information, such as your IP (Internet) address. Without this information, you could not be sent the page. The IP address is used to increment a visits counter, but is not retained.
Certain e-mail addresses defined on the Contacts page are sent by the redirection service Freeparking to other destinations. Specifically, this currently applies to the weddings, info and Visitor Services addresses. Any such e-mail is not seen by the webmaster -- he doesn't even know about it. It is sent instead to the staff at Osterley Park.
If you submit an e-mail address for any reason, this address is used only for that reason. For example, if you ask to be added to the Events Newsletter mailing list, the e-mail address stated (or retrieved from the Reply-to or the From line of your message) is used only to send you Events Newsletters, and for no other purpose. Any name given with the address is ignored and deleted. If you ask a question, the address is used only to respond to that question. We don't like spam, and we don't do spam ourselves. (To learn more about spam, and how to stop it, read this page.)
All processing is done by hand by the webmaster personally, using a computer which sits behind two firewalls. The first is the hardware firewall in his ADSL router, and, because he is slightly paranoid about these things, he also uses a software firewall (ZoneAlarm, for those interested). Physical protection is also in place, with access only available to the webmaster.
If you enter a search request, this is processed by a service called WebSideStory (formerly Atomz) to provide the search results. They send the webmaster details of the searches made in any one week. He uses this information to decide how to improve the site, by seeing what information is being searched for. For example, the latest searches at the date of writing this paragraph were for "angling" and "fishing". He has now added details to the site on how to get fishing permits.
The only details we receive from WebSideStory are the search terms used, how often, and in which week. For the WebSideStory privacy policy, go to this page.

Remember that the webmaster is a private individual running the site in his (strictly limited!) spare time, and responses to e-mails may not be dealt with for a day or two. Requests to be added to the mailing list are grouped for bulk processing. Also, note that this site is updated only as required.

Basically, yes please!
There are a few comments and suggestions, however.
Firstly, you should always link to this web address: http://www.osterleypark.org.uk/. "Deep linking" will not always work, since this site is currently hosted on a Demon homepage, and the subdirectory on that homepage changes annually. I may change to hosting the site on a local machine, in which case that change will be reflected here.
Secondly, you should use target="_top" in the link, so that this web site doesn't appear inside one of your frames. I would also ask you to be polite about anything you say with the link!
Thirdly, if you want to provide a picture link, you may use one of these images:
| house.jpg (48x55): | ![]() |
| house2_t.jpg (200x98): | ![]() |
Please copy the chosen image to a suitable place on your site (in case the image's location is changed), but remember to note that it is Copyright © 2002 Clive R Robertson (not the National Trust). You may not use these images for any other purpose, nor may you use any other image from this web site without prior permission.
You may wish to use this HTML code (modified appropriately):
<a href="http://www.osterleypark.org.uk/" target="_top"> <img src="image_folder/image_name" alt="Osterley Park" width="48" height="55"> </a>
Fourthly (and this is very important), this is not a National Trust web site nor is it authorised by the National Trust, and any text associated with the link must not appear to imply otherwise. The National Trust is not responsible for anything on this site; the webmaster takes full responsibility.
Finally, I'd be happy to hear of any links, and I may link back (but no promises!).
